The water of the earth

Water from the earth - illustration 1
UA frog lived on the edge of a hole filled with water, near a stream. It was a small, discreet, ordinary green frog. She wanted to become extraordinary and was thinking about how to get noticed. As she thought about it, she had an idea. She began to drink the water from her hole, to drink, to drink..., and she drank it to the last drop! And she started to grow. Then she began to drink the water from the stream,k to drink, to drink..., and she drank it to the last drop! And she was getting bigger and bigger. Following the bed of the stream, she arrived at the river, and she began to drink the water from the river, to drink, to drink..., and she drank it to the last drop! And as the river flowed into the river, she went near the river, and she began to drink the water of the river, to drink, to drink..., and she drank it to the last drop!
And the frog swelled and swelled!
VSas the river flowed into the sea, the frog went to the edge of the sea, and he began to drink the water of the sea, to drink, to drink..., and he drank it to the last drop which was the last drop of water on the whole earth. His stomach, his legs, and his head were waterlogged, and even his eyes became bulging. The little frog was now extraordinary, gigantic; his head was touching the sky!
The plants were thirsty, the animals were thirsty, and the men were too. So everyone came together to look for a way to recover water from the earth.
“It must open its wide mouth so that the water splashes back onto the earth.
– If we make her laugh, someone said, she will open her mouth and the water will overflow.
– Good idea, said the others.
They then prepared a big party, and the funniest animals came from all over the world. The men played clowns and told funny stories. Looking at them, the animals forgot that they were thirsty, and so did the children. But the frog didn't laugh, didn't even smile. She remained impassive, motionless. The monkeys did acrobatics, grimaces, danced, and clowned around. But the frog didn't move, didn't laugh, didn't even give the hint of a smile.
Everyone was exhausted and thirsty when a small, insignificant creature arrived, a small earthworm, which approached the frog. He began to squirm and undulate. The frog looked at him in surprise. The little worm struggled as much as he could. He made a tiny grimace, and... the frog burst out laughing, a huge laugh that made his whole body tremble! She couldn't stop laughing, and the waters overflowed from her wide-open mouth. The water spread over all the earth, and the frog grew smaller and smaller. Life could start again, and the frog regained its ordinary frog size. She just kept her big bulging eyes, in memory of this adventure.
