Her father insisted that she get married, but she refused all the young people he introduced to her. One day when he begged her again, she promised him that she would marry the one who brought her a blue rose.
His father was not happy with this decision, because he knew well that blue roses did not exist. Roses are white, red, pink, or yellow, but never blue!
VSResponding to his daughter's demands, he had it announced throughout the country that the first person to bring the princess a blue rose, the color of her eyes, would marry her that same day. Many people went in search of this rose in the hope of becoming the emperor's son-in-law! Many gave up their search.
Only three suitors continued their quest. One of them was a rich merchant. He went to a florist and asked him to find him a blue rose, otherwise, he would kill him. The desperate florist used subterfuge to save his life. He dipped a white rose in a blue liquid, and the rose was dyed the desired color! When the merchant came back to see the florist, he thanked him and gave him a lot of money. He then rushed to the palace to show the blue rose to the princess and marry her. The king rejoiced at the sight of the flower and said to his daughter: “You must keep your promise! You have the blue rose you wanted, we are going to prepare the wedding. » His daughter, however, had guessed the ruse and replied to her father: “How could you have let yourself be deceived so easily?
“This rose is only blue because it was dyed!” This is not its original color. » She asked for a bird to be brought. When it landed on the rose, it died instantly, killed by the poison that had been used to color the flower.
The second suitor was a soldier who went to the region of the five rivers, famous for its diamonds. He examined many precious stones and finally found a very large blue sapphire. He bought it and took it to a jeweler to have it cut into the shape of a rose. When the emperor saw the jewel, he found it magnificent and was convinced that his daughter would agree to marry this soldier.
Our father went to look for her and said to her: “You must keep your promise! You have the blue rose you wanted, we are going to prepare the wedding. " When she saw the rose, the young woman exclaimed: "But it's not a flower! My father, you can see that it is only a sapphire cut into the shape of a flower! I have much more beautiful jewelry and I'm still waiting for someone to bring me a real blue rose. »
The third suitor was a young nobleman from a good family. He summoned the most renowned painter in the country and asked him to paint him the most beautiful blue rose that could be imagined. When the painting was finished, he took it to the emperor, who was convinced that, this time, his daughter would be satisfied, and that she would finally have found a husband.
Our father went to look for her and said to her: “You must keep your promise! You have the blue rose you wanted, we are going to prepare the wedding. » The princess replied that she wanted a living rose and not a picture, no matter how beautiful it was. The last suitor was therefore refused like all the others.
On a summer evening, as she admired the sunset, she heard a poet singing. He was a handsome young man with a soft and harmonious voice. She went down to meet him. She fell in love with him, but when he told her that he wanted to marry her, she replied: "Alas, I swore that I would only marry the one who would be able to bring me a blue rose." So far, no one has succeeded.
— I will succeed. It's not difficult, there are blue roses everywhere. »

The next day he arrived at the palace with a cream-colored rose. He presented it to the emperor, who made fun of him. He nevertheless called his daughter and said to her: “There, my daughter, is a poet who claims to have found a blue rose! » To his great surprise, he heard his daughter respond: “But yes, father, it is blue, it is the most beautiful rose I have ever seen and it is indeed blue. » Everyone at the court shared the emperor's astonishment. Everyone saw a cream rose and not a blue one! Everywhere the princess said: “I assure you it is blue. It's you who can't see! It is a wonderful blue, and I am happy because I am going to marry the one who brought it to me. » And so it was done. The princess was very happy and lost the habit of constantly striving for perfection.
