How sea water became salty
A long time ago two brothers lived in China. Wang, the eldest, was the strongest and constantly bullied his younger brother. When their father died, things did not improve and life became untenable for Wang-cadet. The eldest monopolized all of his father's inheritance: the beautiful house, the buffalo, and all the property. Wang-cadet had nothing at all and misery soon settled in his house.
One day, he didn't even have a single grain of rice left. He was therefore forced to go to his brother's house so as not to die of hunger. Arriving there, he greeted him and spoke to him in these words: “Elder brother, lend me a little rice. » But his brother, who was very miserly, flatly refused to help him, and the youngest left empty-handed.
Not knowing what to do, Wang-cadet went fishing on the shores of the Yellow Sea. Luck was not on his side as he failed to catch the smallest fish. He was returning home empty-handed, head down, heart heavy when suddenly he saw a millstone in the middle of the road. “It could always be useful!” » he thought as he picked up the millstone, and brought it home.
As soon as she saw him, his wife asked him: “Did you have good fishing?” Are you bringing in a lot of fish?
— No, woman! There are no fish. I brought you a millstone.
— Wang-cadet, you know very well that we have nothing to grind: there is not a single grain left in the house. »
Wang-cadet placed the millstone on the ground and, in annoyance, kicked it. The millstone began to turn and turn and grind. And salt came out, quantities of salt. It turned faster and faster and more and more salt came out.
Wang-cadet and his wife were very happy with this windfall while the millstone turned and turned and the pile of salt grew and grew. Wang-Cadet was starting to get scared and wondered how he could stop the millstone. He thought, reflected, and calculated, he found no way. Suddenly he finally had the idea to turn her over, and she stopped.
From that day on, whenever something was missing in the house, Wang-cadet pushed the millstone with his foot and obtained salt which he exchanged with his neighbors for what he needed. They thus lived free from want, he and his wiButMbut the older brother quickly learned how his younger brother had found happiness and he was assailed by envy. He came to his brother and said: “Younger brother, lend me your millstone. » The younger brother would have preferred to keep his find to himself, but he had a deep respect for his older brother and he did not dare refuse.

The elder Wang was in such a hurry to take away the millstone that the younger Wang did not have time to explain to him how to stop him. When he wanted to speak to him, the latter was already far away, taking the object of his desire.
Very happy, the elder brother brought the millstone home and pushed it with his foot. The millstone began to turn and grind salt. She grinds relentlessly, faster and faster. The pile of salt grew and grew all the time. He quickly reached the roof of the house. The walls creaked. The house was going to collapse.
The elder was frightened. He didn't know how to stop the grindstone. He then had the idea of rolling her out of the house, which was on a hill. The millstone rolled down the slope, rolled into the sea, and disappeared into the waves.
Since then, the millstone has continued to turn at the bottom of the sea and grind salt. No one went to return it.
And this is why the water in the sea is salty.
